Tour the "B" Street Cemetery

The La Verne Cemetery, located at 3201 “B” Street, was first organized in 1903 in response to growing need in the community of Lordsburg. Before it was opened, members of early Lordsburg families were buried in Claremont Pomona, Los Angeles, or in family cemeteries (the Palomares family has its own cemetery). Originally called the Evergreen Cemetery (a popular name for places of rest), the La Verne Cemetery is “open” and available for those wishing interment here.

Today the tour will include profiles of five early presidents of Lordsburg College/University of La Verne. Docents will “tell” the history of the W.I.T. Hoover, W. C. Hanawalt, S. J. Miller, Ellis M. Studebaker, and C. Ernest Davis family histories, with accompanying photos. In February, the theme of the LVHS-sponsored “Get on the Bus” were the homes in La Verne currently or formally occupied by families with these names.

Begin your tour at any site marked by a balloon and attended by a docent narrator. Expect to spend about 10 minutes at each site and then look for another site until you have visited all the locations on the tour. At the end of your tour, return to the LVHS table for refreshments. Consider purchasing a copy of “La Verne” which tells the history of our city. We will also be selling our jams/jellies/marmalade, t-shirts. We will have several items to raffle.
