Family-Owned Mexican Restaurant Chain, Mi Ranchito, Celebrates 45 Years
All three locations offering $4.50 combination plate
Mi Ranchito Restaurants & Cantina in Chino, La Verne and Upland is celebrating its 45th birthday with an amazing deal, a special day of celebration and opportunities for all to win some cool prizes, including a 50-inch TV.
On Saturday, Sept. 14th from open to close, at all three locations you can purchase the most popular combination plate, combo no. 1, which includes two tacos or one taco and one enchilada with rice and beans, for only $4.50. The normal menu price is $10.59.
Patrons will also have the opportunity to enter each location’s raffle for various prizes, including restaurant gift cards, leading up to the celebration. One 50-inch TV will be raffled off from all the entries collected now through the month of September, including entries made on the anniversary.
The secrets to running a successful Mexican restaurant for the Macias family goes back to 1974. The late Antonio Macias and his wife, Sara, opened the first Mi Ranchito location on 4th and Grove in Ontario and it became a hit.
The founders’ daughter, Patricia Macias-Pena, who runs the La Verne location, remembers the line often out the door during lunch.
“I was working as a waitress in my teens and every day during lunch it was madness,” she said. “At the Ontario location you would order at the counter and the line to order was at or out the door at times.”
They knew they had a winning formula and in 81’ opened the Chino location with Upland following in 86’ and La Verne in 95’. Ontario eventually closed, but the family traditions continued through the other locations.
Macias-Pena’s brother, Marco Macias, and sister, Nancy Macias run the Chino and Upland locations.
So how does a restaurant make it 45 years? The answer: great food made with quality, fresh ingredients, exceptional customer service, and a work environment that make all feel like family.
“We feel like family, from our employees to our patrons. Generations have been coming here and working here,” said Macias-Pena.
Three generations of the Macias family have worked for Mi Ranchito.
Over the years, the family-owned restaurant evolved, becoming a destination for locals and visitors alike.
The longevity of employees speaks of the restaurant’s family feel. The family still employs one of their original hires from Ontario and all locations have several employees with years of service under their belts.
The Mexican restaurants are well-known for many other dishes beyond the popular combination plate that will be on special, including the Coctel de Camaron, fresh Guacamole, Carnitas and Fajitas.
Carnitas was Antonio’s favorite dish and he personally taught him and Sara’s recipes to their children.
Amazing food pairs well with delicious drinks like Margaritas, Micheladas and more. Each location’s cantina is a popular happy hour and weekend spot.
Their anniversary isn’t the only day fans can enjoy a deal. With weeknight and weekend specials including Margarita Monday, Taco Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday dinner specials (Chino location only), karaoke with drink specials on Thursdays (La Verne) and other weekend specials during football season, there’s always a good excuse to go to Mi Ranchito.
The restaurants are not only recognized for their delicious Mexican food and drinks, but for their efforts in the local communities.
Each location is actively involved with their area school districts, donating and supporting organizations and fundraisers. During the holidays, they partner with local fire departments and law enforcement to collect toys for the underserved families.
Through their partnerships with the chamber of commerce, they also support small business and non-profit organizations.
Guests are welcome to enter the raffle each time they dine at any location, and as part of the celebration, ongoing contests will be announced and executed leading up to the anniversary on the company Instagram, @Miranchitorestaurants.
