House of Ruth Hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events

From late September through the end of October, House of Ruth, a Pomona-based domestic abuse shelter and outreach agency, will be hosting four public events to heighten awareness of domestic violence and to remember those who were lost to it.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, members from the agency will marching from Pomona City Hall to our Pomona outreach center at 599 N. Main St, Pomona, at 5:30 p.m. to bring attention to the dangerous intersection of gun violence and domestic violence. Following the walk, House of Ruth will be hosting a variety of food vendors, tabling community partners, workshops, and speakers until 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, Oct. 11, House of Ruth is hosting a panel discussion with survivors of domestic violence in the courtyard of our outreach offices. The community is invited to hear panelists speak on intergenerational trauma and how love was modeled in the home. The event is open and interactive, leaving space for audience members to ask questions over light snacks and refreshments. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 599 N. Main St., Pomona.

On October 14, House of Ruth will host its annual Moveable Feast fundraiser. The event begins with a cocktail reception held at an undisclosed private venue, known only to ticket holders. From the reception, guests will disperse to our hosts’ homes to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal among friends of House of Ruth. The event is open to the public and tickets are $100.00 per person.

We close out Domestic Violence Awareness Month with our 19^th annual Candlelight Vigil. This is a free and public event, to be held this year on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m in the courtyard of our outreach agency, at 599 N. Main St. Pomona. The theme this year is, “Healing Generations: Lighting the Way to Peace” and will reflect the themes of intergenerational trauma and of modeling love that we engaged in our prior panel event. The event will include interactive exhibits, speakers, performance, tabling from community partners, and light refreshments.
