La Verne Lines Up a Spooktacular October for Residents
While the coronavirus pandemic has caused the Fall season to look a bit different this year, the City of La Verne is embracing the challenge and has lined up a series of fun Halloween celebrations for its residents to enjoy. This October, the City will be hosting three (3) virtual and three (3) modified in-person events so that the entire La Verne community can have an eerie, spooky, hair-raising and spell-binding Halloween season!
For those La Verne ghosts and ghouls who enjoy a bit of competition, the City is hosting both a costume and home decorating contest. Entries are now being accepted, but all entries for both contests must be received by October 27th. Residents can enter both contests by posting entry photos to Facebook and Instagram using the appropriate designated contest hashtag (described below).
The four Halloween Costume Contest categories are Pet Costume, Tot Costume (0-3), Child Costume (4-17) or Family/Group Costume. Costume entry photos should be posted to social media using #LaVerneCostumeContest. Those interested in the Halloween Home Decorating Contest are encouraged to get their goblins out of the attic and string up their spookiest skeletons, creepiest cobwebs and jolliest jack-o-lanterns. Similar to the costume contest, residents can enter the home decorating contest by posting photos of their spooktacular haunts on Facebook and Instagram and using #LaVerneHomeContest. Winners for both the costume and home decorating contests will be announced on October 29th and will receive a prize and bragging rights.
La Verne residents will also be able to experience the bewitching magic of the Heritage Harvest Farmers Market. The local Farmers Market will be transformed the weekend of October 17th-18th and October 24th-25th from 10am to 5:30pm, and will feature fun seasonal Fall favorites like pumpkins, jams, candy and heritage attire. Limited capacity, physical distancing, face coverings and other
public health and safety guidelines will be in effect (this also applies to in-person events described below).
Shortly after the Heritage Harvest Farmers Market, the City will be hosting a very special virtual event for those members of the community with special needs -- a Halloween Hop Virtual Dance! This event will take place on Wednesday, October 28th from 10:30am to 12pm. To ensure residents are ready to boogie on down at this FREE event via Zoom, please be sure to register by October 22nd.
To close out the season with a bang, two extra magical events will take place Halloween weekend. On Friday, October 30th, the City of La Verne and the La Verne Police Officers Association will be hosting a Drive-In Movie Night event at the Pomona Fairplex (1101 W. McKinley Avenue, Gate 17) featuring Disney-Pixar’s COCO. While all are welcome to enjoy this frightfully fantastic movie, tickets will be $15 per vehicle
