Help La Verne's 'Band of Brothers' Help Vets This Holiday Season

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12034, La Verne’s ‘Band of Brothers,’ provides a meal to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas to all veterans and their families. During its Christmas event, members hand out gifts, and would like to provide groceries to vets and their families who are struggling during the holiday season.

To that end, Post 12034 is seeking donations, discounts, and/or prizes to help support this event. It is a 501 c 3 nonprofit and donations are tax deductible. Contact Post Commander Phil Ramirez (626) 252-3402 for more information.

Post 12034 offers military burials, in which military honors are given to fallen veterans upon request from families in all counties of Southern California. It posts colors at various community events, and on the second Tuesday of each month a Cal-Vet representative is available to help veterans with ongoing claims. There is also a scholarship program for all La Verne high school students.

The VFW traces its roots back to 1898, when veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippines Insurrection founded a local organization to secure rights and benefits for their service. Many arrived home wounded and sick, and there was no medical care or pension available for them.
